Enjoy Your Summer

My daughter and her family will be arriving the 1st of July and are here to stay for the entire month.  Than brings 3 young grandchildren into our home, ages 1, 2 and 5 and it will be precious time to enjoy them along with Theo, our in-town grandchild.  My 2 boys have both moved back to Wilmington with their families so with Michelle traveling with her family from Atlanta, we will have all the youngun’s in town for the whole month!  So forgive me if I’m not as active with my painting our communications – I’m probably on the beach or visiting an area tourist attraction with all the grands in tow!  It will be a special time for sure.

I’m hoping that all of you have a wonderful 4th of July celebration with family and friends.  I will run a brief sale for the 4th so stay tuned for that.  I’ve recently focused on finishing some commissions and a charity project for our community.  Hopefully you have seen the Instagram and Facebook posts about the Carolina basketball practice from the 1978 team.  It was quite an undertaking, but I find satisfaction in seeing it all come together in the end.  Working from multiple photographs, I was able to make a composite of a team practice in the 1970s in Carmichael Auditorium at UNC Chapel Hill.  This was my era, so it was fun to work on this piece and participate in honoring Gene Cobb, who was a statistician for Coach Dean Smith.  Gene retired from over 40 years of a career as a Methodist  minister, so I was happy to  be able to provide his gift from his family. The other big project of finish involved painting bee boxes for the New Hanover County Bee Keepers Association.  These boxes feature native plants that are attractive to bees, who are vital to our ecosystem in pollinating our food supply and flowering plants.

I plan to be in the upcoming Landfall show in August and the Art in the Arboretum Show in September.  Until then, I will be enjoying family and maybe squeezing in a little time to paint.  Hope all of you are enjoying your summer!
